Best Practices for hrglass

hrglass works best when everything is connected. Here are the habits that save you the most time, and get you paid faster.

Put every Task in a Project, and every Project under a Client. That’s what makes invoicing one click. When it’s time to bill, hrglass pulls in every uninvoiced Task, Timer entry and expense for that Client.

See Creating a Project and Creating an Invoice.

Sell the same things often? Add them as services with a set price. You’ll quote and bill the same amount every time, without looking it up.

See Services.

Track your time on everything, not just hourly work. Knowing how long a fixed-price job really took helps you price the next one.

See Starting and Stopping Timers. Star the Tasks you use most for one-click Timers.

Get a yes in writing before the work begins. Attach your contract terms so your Client accepts both at once. Once it’s accepted, hrglass can turn it into a Project for you.

See Creating an Estimate and Contract Templates.

Set your default payment terms, then turn on auto-reminders. hrglass emails your Client when an Invoice is overdue, so you don’t have to.

See Getting Paid.

The Calendar shows every Project deadline, Task due date and Invoice due date in one place, plus what’s overdue.

See Calendar.

Done with a Client or Project? Archive it. It’s out of your way, but its history stays for reports and past Invoices. Save deleting for things you added by mistake.

See Archiving, Deleting and Restoring Projects and Tasks and Archiving, Deleting and Restoring Clients.
