Time Rounding

Lots of freelancers bill in clean blocks, like quarter hours. Time rounding does that math for you. Your tracked time stays exact. Only the billed hours get rounded.

Only the workspace Owner can change this setting.

  1. Go to Settings › Invoice Settings.
  2. Scroll to Time Rounding.
  3. In Round time, pick Round to nearest or Round up.
  4. Pick an Interval: 6 minutes (0.1h), 15 minutes (0.25h) or 30 minutes (0.5h).
  5. Under Apply rounding to, pick Total time per task or Each time entry.
  6. Click Save.

To stop rounding, pick No rounding and click Save. Your interval and other choices are remembered if you turn it back on later.

  • Round to nearest goes to the closest interval. With 15 minutes, 1h 07m becomes 1h and 1h 08m becomes 1h 15m.
  • Round up always goes to the next interval. With 15 minutes, 1h 01m becomes 1h 15m.

Time never rounds down to zero. Any time on a Task counts as at least one interval.

This one makes a bigger difference than you’d think.

  • Total time per task adds up all the time on a Task, then rounds once.
  • Each time entry rounds every entry on its own, then adds them up.

Say a Task has three entries: 7, 22 and 38 minutes. That’s 1h 07m. With Round up to 15 minutes:

Apply rounding to Billed
Total time per task 1.25 h
Each time entry 1.5 h

Not sure which to pick? The Preview in the settings shows what your choices would bill for this example, and what the other option would bill.

  • Invoices. Rounded hours are used on new Invoices. Invoices you already created don’t change.
  • Summary reports. The Reports dashboard and custom reports let you switch between Rounded and Raw hours.

Your time entries, timesheets and detailed time reports always show the exact time you tracked.

Rounding only applies to Hourly Rate and Other Rate Tasks. Fixed Cost and Non-Billable Tasks aren’t affected.
