Creating and Editing Tasks

Tasks are the pieces of work inside a Project. You track time against a Task, and each Task decides how that time is billed.

  1. Go to Tasks and click New Task.
  2. Enter a Task Name.
  3. Under Project, pick the Project.
  4. Choose a Billing Type. See Billing Type.
  5. Fill in any other fields you need.
  6. Click Create Task.

You can also add a Task from Add New › New Task in the top menu, or with Add Task on a Project page.

Field What it’s for
Assigned To Who’s doing the work. On your own, that’s always you. On a Team plan, click Add Additional Users to add teammates.
Description Details about the work.
Status Where the Task stands.
Priority Low, Medium or High.
Start Date and Due Date When the work starts and when it’s due. The due date shows on your Dashboard and Calendar.

Under Billing Information, choose how the Task is billed:

Billing Type How it’s billed
Fixed Cost One set amount. Enter it in Fixed Cost ($).
Hourly Rate Tracked hours times the Hourly Rate ($). If you’ve set a default hourly rate, it’s filled in for you.
Non-Billable No charge. Track time for your own records.
Other Rate Your Base Hourly Rate ($) times a Rate Multiplier, like Overtime or Rush.

hrglass shows the Estimated Total as you go.

To use a set price from your services list, pick it under Assign Service (Optional). It fills in the fixed cost for you.

Already did the work? For Hourly Rate and Other Rate Tasks, use Log time now. Enter the Date, Hours and Minutes, and the time is added when you create the Task.

  1. Click the Task’s name, or choose Edit from its menu.
  2. Change what you need in Edit Task.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Click the star in Edit Task to add the Task to your favorites. Favorites give you one-click Timers on the Timer page.

To make a similar Task, choose Duplicate from the Task’s menu. Change the details and click Save Duplicate.

Start tracking time. See Starting and Stopping Timers.
